Challenges & solutions: The cup plant in this bed is so happy in its spot that it gets absolutely huge. We’ve found it needs staking early and requires extra support as it grows. Another challenge is weeding in between the stones in this bed. This bed doesn’t need very much water and like a scree garden, it has stones for substrate, which creates a nice look and suits the drought bed, however weeding between the stones can be difficult. One day, we’d love to add a very thick layer of newspaper or cardboard beneath the stones. In the mean-time, we let the weeds grow a bit bigger so the roots pull more easily from between the stones.
